Meet your new committee!

Updated: Jul 31

There are some exciting changes afoot at the club. First up, the committee for the 2020/21 season has been announced.

Woking Hockey Club Committee

Ketan Patel - Club Chair

I am delighted to be the new Chair of Woking Hockey Club. We have a new committee who have been working hard behind the scenes and we have taken time to reflect on the recent member survey. I have taken over from John Hughes, who has created a stable platform from a financial and playing aspect. This will allow me to develop the club further with the support of all the volunteers that give up their valuable time.

My vision is to have a club that:

  • is inclusive, supporting as many people as possible to play hockey

  • is successful on the pitch, with our top teams aspiring to be promoted every season

  • has superb pitches and facilities

  • has a social programme that fully utilises our clubhouse, maximises revenue from the bar and allows us all to relax and have fun

  • puts something back into our local community, making our pitches available to schools and local footballers as well as repaying the support that we receive from Woking Borough Council.

More of my vision will be shared in a separate blog in the coming weeks.

Katy Robinson - Vice-Chair

I’ve just taken up the role of Vice Chair of the new Operational Committee. I will be working with some of our wonderful volunteers to keep the clubhouse and pitches safe and secure for all our members. I am delighted that we now have a marketing team who are working to improve communication within the club and to show how fantastic Woking Hockey Club is to our wider community.

We all need to work with the same vision to continue to drive the club forward - not everything is perfect; we can always make improvements but only we, as members, can change that by volunteering to give some time to lend a hand.

By working together we can continue to improve and the more volunteers we have the more we can achieve! Even if you can only spare an hour a week, there is a volunteer role for you! I would love to hear from you at vicechair@wokinghc.com

Gilly Carter - Secretary

I’ve just taken up the role of Club Secretary and will be working with Ketan, Katy and Martin to get Woking Hockey Club well placed to attract new members, retain our loyal players and enable hockey to be enjoyed at all levels.

My responsibilities are to set up and chair the regular Operations Committee meetings, handle the administrative issues for the Club, manage the website input and work with Steve Wilman who is our Membership Secretary.

Martin Ellis - Treasurer

I’m a Chartered Accountant and took on the role of Treasurer last Autumn and have been working hard with our excellent book-keeper, Ju Hubbard, to bring everything up to date. Happily my finance skills are better than my hockey playing ability!

My main responsibility is to ensure that the club’s finances are properly controlled and that we operate within our means, whilst setting aside sufficient funds to enable the eventual replacement of our playing surfaces. I oversee the annual budget and the monthly management accounts, as well as producing the annual accounts and tax computations.
