Junior Chair

Mathew Prestwich-

Father of 4, all of the children play hockey at school but only 1 at Woking Hockey Club. I helped with coaching the U12’s last year and managed the Imps where my daughter plays.

I played hockey at Kingston Grammar School from 13 yrs old and was fortunate to be in a hot streak of players coached by Jon Royce. We had 7 Junior Internationals in the school 1st XI and I was one of them. I played in goal for England U18’s and U21’s and GB U21’s. I was fortunate to have travelled a lot through hockey with school and my country. The unfortunate part is that I was in the same year as Simon Mason so we all know how that ended for me!

I played for Teddington for many years but moved to Cambridge City to get regular game time and was also at University there. Whilst in Cambridge I coached at the Friends School in Saffron Walden and Cambridge University Women’s team for 2 seasons.

I am not a qualified coach but am eager to learn once time permits (I run my own company). Hockey is a very different game to when I played so I am still learning from the coaches.

I am coming from a position of very little knowledge regarding this appointment having jumped into the hot seat after a moment of madness, so please bear with me. I am passionate to give back to hockey what it gave to me- discipline, fitness, commitment and a sense of comradeship that came from being part of a team.

Wish me luck please!
