Richmond Wildcats v Hurricanes

Sizzling performance in the sun!

Woking Hurricanes travelled to Richmond on what had to be the hottest day in February for years! The game was to be held in quarters and in the first Woking came out very strong. They continually pressed on the Richmond goal but after 8 attempts on target it felt as though the goal would never come. The girls kept pressing being rewarded with long and short corners. The whistle blew for the end of the first quarter and it would have been understandable if the girls had left the pitch frustrated.
Richmond came out with intent in the 2nd quarter but Woking continued to dominate possession and territory. Against the odds Richmond were awarded a short, and after a well worked move they fired it into the back of the net. 1-0 to them.
Woking heads did not drop and they continued to dominate, after some fabulous passing through the team Claudia put in a great pass to Cara at the top of the D and she rocketed her bouncing hit into the back of the net! 1-1.
The girls continued to press but half time came with a draw.
Another brilliant team talk from our 3 coaches on pitch side and the girls came out looking a more professional outfit. Great work in defence with Hannah and Isabelle moving the ball well supporting the midfielders and switching the ball to create space. It wasn't long before the ball was back in their D and Katie was pushing it into the goal. 1-2. More possession for us and the 3rd goal arrived courtesy of more great midfield work and Eloise thumping the ball across the goal with Katie there again to slot it in!! 1-3.
The last quarter and some positional changes on the pitch did not detract from a very sleek performance from the girls. The midfielders working hard to win back every ball from the oppo. Yet another chance on goal with a great finish from Gracie and we were well deserved winners!!1-4!!
A great performance from the girls showing real determination to reach every ball and if a mistake was made, to get the ball back! Keep up the good work girls!!
Special mention to Meghna and Lila Mae who slotted into the team well and did themselves proud!
Martins man of the match went to Lara for her amazing work and determination on the pitch.
Oppo man of the match- Cara.
