Hurricanes vs Maidenhead

Top of the league clash

On a very cold Sunday morning with a hint of snow in the air the Hurricanes had to take on their biggest challenge yet. Top of the table Maidenhead came to Woking and were to prove to be a very strong and talented team.
The first half started at pace. With end to end action and good play from both teams. Maidenhead however were to prove to be very strong, getting to every ball, passing well and pushing us back into our own half. Forcing us to defend very deep. After 9mins Maidenhead got their first goal of the half. They kept on pushing and were soon rewarded with a short corner. In what looked like a well rehearsed short they powered the ball into the net and we were 2 -0 down. After 24 minutes they were to score again after a phase of excellent passing. 3 nil down and it looked like all was lost for Woking. The half time whistle came at just the right time.
Half time brought some tough love from the coaches, Martin and Camps, and also some rousing words as our team came back onto the pitch ready to take on the oppo and show them what they were made of!!
The 2nd half was like watching a different team, we passed well and worked well for each other. Sustained pressure from us saw us mainly in their half and after 10 minutes the girls were rightly rewarded with a goal. A great run of passing with Cara managing to nutmeg the goalie and Gracie tapping in! 1-3!! The girls continued to press and won 2 short and 1 long corner. A 2nd goal however proved to be elusive. A great strike by Kate and we all thought we had it but the goalie made a great save denying us a much deserved 2nd goal. Maidenhead had a couple of chances in the 2nd half but both were brilliantly save by Clappie.
We continued to press and had the majority of the possession but time was not on our side. Final whistle 1-3 to Maidenhead. Never easy after a loss but the girls must take encouragement from their 2nd half performance. We need to keep the intensity going forward and remember to support our team mates and always get into positions to make passing flow from defence through midfield and up to the forwards.
