Match Report

Woking Wolves (by Simon Creeger)
Team of Ollie C (GK), Andrew Woodhouse, Sam Currie, Gideon Waldman, Max Hodgson, Ewan McCormick, Will Kuipers

Game 1: Epsom A v Woking Wolves: Draw 0 – 0. Very tight game, neither attack able to mount an concerted effort on goal - very well played defensive performance from Sam (excellent clearances from defence), Gideon and Max (all over place ran his socks off).

Game 2: Woking Wolves v Woking Wasps: Loss 0 – 1. Another tight game, not a lot between the sides here one great save by Ollie C in goal when 1 on 1. Goal for Wasps coming from a neat reverse through the defence hitting GK on pad and then over leg into goal. Great all round work here from Max (covering midfield and coming back into defence to help out).

Game 3: Horley v Woking Wolves: Won 0 – 3. Horley came with no GK, but played 7 outfield players. Horley really struggled, and some great work from Sam will a long pass out to the right led to the first goal from the right hand side by Gideon. Second goal scored by Max, running straight through their midfield and defence and then a deft touch to finish off the chance to lead by 2 goals to nil. The last goal was a delight to behold, nice setup play from Gideon for Max to score outside on left and make it 3 - 0 to Wolves.

Game 4: Woking Wolves v Epsom B: Loss 0 – 1. This game was yet another tight affair, although Woking starting to show some effects of having to play 4 games 'on the trot', no rest and no subs. Early in the game with Epsom swarming through our defence a 1 on 1 was setup, great save from the Ollie C in goal who quickly got up again to make another awesome save from the follow up, but unfortunately was unable to keep up the third attempt - Epsom took the lead 1 - 0. Wolves regathered and Max had 2 great chances to score, both resulting in some really good saves from the Epsom keeper to keep a clean sheet.

Game 5: THD B v Woking Wolves: Loss 4 – 1. No rest for the Wolves straight into the 4th game, quite clearly very tired. Wolves started very well with a Max on a 1 on 1 with the keeper, but a great save and clear out stopped our chance of taking the lead. Another super chance from Gideon 1 on 1 with their keeper, but an awesome save saw the keeper take man and ball (quite literally off the pitch, Gideon having to come off the pitch with an injury). Wolves down to 6 v 7 for THD B, and with tiredness creeping in 4 quick goals in succession made the score 4 - 0. Gideon coming back on with a minute or so to spare scored and give a tad more respect to the score line.

Game 6: Woking Wolves v THD A: Loss 0 – 3. Again the team straight on, no rest and no subs, to play arguably the strongest and most well drilled team at the event (aside from our Woking Wasps colleague, of course), Tulse Hill and Dulwich A. Despite a very strong, and by far busiest, display by Ollie C in goal in which he managed to make a succession of 4 saves, we let in 4 goals - our defence extremely tired and unable to match their attack.

All in all great fun by the entire team and young Max must have been exhausted after 6 consecutive games - he truly was 'everywhere' - well done Max.

Woking Wasps (by Andrew Paulson)
Team of Jack McK (GK), Alex Trevers, Alex McK, Tom Leighton, Isaac Wardill, Rory Menzies, Daniel Hartmann, Jack Paulson

Congratulations to the Wasps who went undefeated, winning four and drawing two, in the competitive Epsom 7s festival.
Game 1: Woking Wasps v Woking Wolves: Won 1 -1. The Wasps edged Woking rivals Wolves in a narrow 1-0 opening win.
Game 2: Woking Wasps v Epsom A: Drew 0-0.
Game 3: Woking Wasps v Epsom B: Drew 0-0. Successive fixtures against Epsom A and B both ended in 0-0 draws. Goalkeeper Jack Mckinnon deserves special mention for a stoic display keeping clean sheets against the strong home teams.
Game 4: Woking Wasps v THD A: Won 2-1: Tulse Hill & Dulwich A were next up, taking an early lead as the Wasps defence was finally broken. The response was excellent, typifying the Woking team spirit. Our boys competed hard for every loose ball to fight back and win 2-1 with two well worked goals.
Game 5: Woking Wasps v Horley: Won 3-0. As the tournament reached the business end, the Wasps grew in strength. Daniel Hartman scored two of his four tournament goals in an accomplished 3-0 victory against Horley.
Game 6: Woking Wasps v THD B: Won. More was to come in the final match, another 3-0 win. Appropriately, the last goal of the campaign was a wonderfully worked short corner, Rory Menzies’s crisp drive leaving the THD keeper with no chance.

P6 W4 D2 L0 GD8 For: 9 Against: 1
The boys should all be very proud of a strong team performance against organised opposition. They competed hard, particularly when facing potential defeat, and supported each other to get the best out of the team. Well done.
