Match Report BU12s v Yateley

Woking U12s v Yateley U12s – Won 19-3
Yesterday saw the boys play their last match of the season against Yateley. Although currently top of the league table we were likely to be overtaken by Alton who have a game in hand on Woking. The aim of the day was therefore to play well and demonstrate some of the passing skills that we had learnt this season and finish in style. Yateley were one short of full team so we agreed to loan them a player.
Woking looked rusty in the early exchanges and Yateley pressed towards our goal. Within minutes they had a short corner which they put away off a deflection. Slow starts had been a theme of our season and the Easter break had clearly not helped the boys. That said they bounced back well and were soon level with a Felix shot from the top of the D. With confidence growing, Ollie H dribbled through a number of players and shot for a 2-1 lead. Play was end to end and Yateley recovered well to cross the ball along the touch line and through a number of players. It reached our goal and was touched in for the equaliser. Now 10 minutes in and Woking started to wake up. The passes were beginning to flow and the gaps were opening up. First Alec scored, followed by Albie and then another short corner was awarded which Alec slotted away with ease. Suddenly we were 5-2 up and all was looking well as period 1 ended.
Period 2 saw us make a number of changes to mix it up and a couple of different players were loaned to Yateley. Albie was on the run as usual and made a great run through the middle as he passed to Ollie H who put the ball away. Next up it was Charlie’s turn to hit the back of the goal with a lovely reverse shot. Albie then scored his second and as I looked down to note the scorer another one went in from Sam. I could barely keep up with the flood of goals. Next was Felix again, Albie to get his hat-trick and two goals form Dan Q, from assists by Sam and Jack. At 13-2, I was trying to think of ways of making it more competitive!
Period 3 saw some of our forwards put in defence and the backs play up front. We also put our remaining sub on the Yateley team so they now had a 2 man advantage. Still the goals came as Sam slotted home a rebounded shot and Ollie R gained another. Charlie got in on the act again and a lovely move from Joe E to Sam allowed Sam to score his third (17-2). Albie was now playing for Yateley and managed to score for the opposition leaving the score at 17-3. There was still however time for Joe E to score his second goal from a Ollie R shot and a third from an Alec pass. It ended 19-3.
Well Yateley may not have provided the strongest of opposition but the boys played well, and I’m sure had fun along the way. It was a most enjoyable match to watch and a fine way to end the season.
Thanks go to Will Q & Phil E for their encouragement and help managing the team. Particular thanks to Gihan for umpiring once again and indeed for all his help over the season.
