  <title>Arthur Barber&#039;s 80th Birthday Festival</title>
  <link>http://www.wokinghc.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=129</link>
  <description>ARTHUR BARBERS 80th BIRTHDAY
CELEBRATION FESTIVAL
30th MARCH 2008

On the 30 March Woking Hockey Club hosted a celebration festival in honour of our club President, Arthur Barber, to celebrate his 80th birthday.

A tournament was played by teams from LX Hockey, Warlocks, Ancient Britons and Woking Pitts, clubs which Arthur has a long and happy association, Arthur in fine form played a half game with each of the representing teams.

The formalites of the day followed with the Mayor of Woking recognising Arthur for his contribution not only to hockey but to sport in Woking and his involvement in the wider community. David Pitt thanked Arthur for all he has done for Woking Hockey Club over 55 years. Brian Woolcott on behalf of LX Club, thanked Arthur for his valuable contributions to the Club, remembering that he was on the Australian Tour in 1999 when the Ashes were won by the LX Club. Ian Russell, one of the founder members of the Club, made a sincere tribute to Arthur, and presented him with the two litre bottle of 1999 Fronsac wine recently won at the Lille tournament by the LX Club, which Arthur participated in for many years.

Arthur has played for 55 years at Woking Hockey Club, 20 years with the Ancient Britons, 19 years with Warlocks, and 13 years with LX Club. During that time Arthur has toured and played in nearly all of the hockey playing Countries.

A full report on the event and match written by David Read can be found on the LX Club webpage

The photos are available in the gallery Arthur&#039;s Photos</description>
