How You Can Help!
WHC will receive donations from the retailers involved so shopping online using this site will provide a welcome boost to WHC funds but… the size of the boost depends on how many of us use the site. There’s also a way to raise funds whilst surfing!

The Clubs original synthetic pitch is at the end of its useful life and the surface (known as the ‘carpet’) needs replacing. There are a number of options available in terms of a replacement carpet and these have been investigated. Water based is not an option on cost and environmental grounds, not just for WHC but generally, and other products are suitable for top flight hockey. The best is known as’ “sand dressed polyethylene”. The current carpet is known as, “sand filled” synthetic is considered to be a compromise multi-use type carpet.
The Club will need to take a final decision on what version to go for based on capital cost and revenue – it needs to protect the income produced from football.
Other improvements that could be carried out have been identified, some of which may be required to comply with current standards whilst others are ‘nice to have’ improvements. These include:
- New fencing – the current fencing is 2.1 metres high, current standards advise 3m with 5m high behind the goals;
- New goals
- Team shelters
- Protection of spectator area
- New floodlighting (on existing columns) would improve level of lighting and reduce light spillage.
The cost of all this ranges from about £180,000 to £280,000 depending on what the Club can afford. Additional security, e.g. CCTV will be considered but nothing has been worked up yet.
Funding is being investigated. The first opportunity to bid will come with the release of 2.7m from England Hockey under its Capital Investment programme. Full details of this are not being released until 5th October and bids have to be in by 27th November. Awards will be made by 31st March 2010. The scheme requires that a Club finds at least half the cost of their proposals from other sources.
The programme for the pitch renewal aspires to have the work carried out in June 2010, in time for next season. There is a great deal of work required to achieve this, with fund raising being the priority. Whilst all possible sources of funding is being investigated any ideas, donations, etc. are very welcome.

Detailed Directions (back to the top)
Woking itself is pretty easy to find, being trapped between the M3, M25 and A3. The club, however, is situated in the Recreation Area of Goldsworth Park, one of the biggest housing estates in Europe, and almost definitely the biggest maze. For Sat nav users, our post code is GU21 3RT. For those who want directions from the nearest motorways and A roads, please see below:
You are aiming for Wishbone Way, GoldsworthPark. If lost, look for signs to the Lake and Recreation Area. If really lost, phone the clubhouse on (01483) 472509. Please leave your cars in the parking areas along, and at the end of, Wishbone Way, and walk across to the clubhouse. There is no vehicule access to the clubhouse.
- Leave the M3 at Junction 3 and take the A322 towards Guildford.
- Resist the temptation to go left at the first roundabout and continue along the A322 over a few other roundabouts into Bisley.
- Note the Fox pub on your left and turn left at the next set of traffic lights into Knaphill.
- Stay on this road through Knaphill, past the Royal Oak at the bottom of the hill, and turn right at the roundabout into Lockfield Drive.
- Take the first left into Kirkland Avenue, then the fourth left into Wishbone Way.
- There are parking bays along Wishbone Way, and car parks at the end. Please leave your car here and make your way across to the clubhouse on foot.

- Continue on the A320, until the six crossroads roundabout, just past the pub, where you should take the 5th exit signed to Chobham.
- Go right at the first mini-roundabout, then left at the next into Littlewick Road.
- Continue on Littlewick Road at the next roundabout, drive past the back of the club, then turn left at the final roundabout into Lockfield Drive.
- Take the first left into Kirkland Avenue, then the fourth left into Wishbone Way.
- There are parking bays along Wishbone Way, and car parks at the end. Please leave your car here and make your way across to the clubhouse on foot.
